The Oltu is the major river of Huyfárah. From its source in the Šišin mountains it runs southeast, past the city of Barnágo and towards Ussor, the capital of Huyfárah, which is located just a few miles east of the mouth of the Oltu river.
In ancient times, the Oltu valley and surrounding areas were the heartland of the Faraghin culture.
