Omari wittį (nêšémut) 'this (liquid) one is wide'

wittį "this liquid one" is inanimate, so the correct form of "it is wide" would be ešémut [ɛˈʃɛ.mut]. Among Omari speakers, this latter word would probably be used as the name of the river, although of course the demonstrative would also sometimes be used to refer to it. An alternative, formed through classifier-like incorporation of the root of the liquid demonstrative in Early Omari, would be ewičémut [ɛ.wiˈtʃɛ.mut], or muičémut [muɪ̯ˈtʃɛ.mut] if conceived as animate like the noun o·skemi "river". - Cedh (talk) 05:35, 17 October 2017 (PDT)

The river in its original state is very slow-moving and swampy along its course through the plain except at the waterfall. It lacks animate-like characteristics such as swift motion or making sound, and thus I chose to use the inanimate construction wittį (ešémut) for the river name.
