Polysyllables

It seems likely that the preponderance of monosyllables is at least in part due to a decided slant in the currently reconstructed vocabulary towards basic everyday terminology; if a substantially fuller lexicon of PI could ever be reconstructed, it is quite likely the proportion of monomorphemic polysyllables would rise, especially considering that the number of distinct syllables possible in the phonology is probably inadequate for a full supply of roots. Nevertheless it is certainly true that there is a strong preference for monosyllables among basic vocabulary. Radius 00:25, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
