Ōshin is a large and relatively flat island off the coast of eastern Tuysáfa. It was populated by Anatolionesian peoples around -1300 YP. At the time they settled the island they had developed a Bronze Age material culture, but both Ōshin and the smaller neighbouring island Kyosshin are quite poor in tin, and competition between different clans for this resource spurred the search for alternatives. By the middle of the first millennium BP the inhabitants of Ōshin had discovered how to smelt iron, thus starting off the Iron Age on the continent.
