Fu is a Lukpanic language spoken in the island city of s'Dammawp (Proto-Lukpanic Poalugbum); this sketch describes the situation of the language circa 100 YP. Its affinities are closest to the old dialect of Siŋmeasita, s'Dammawp having been settled mainly from that city. Having survived centuries beyond any of its sisters, however, it lacks any direct point of comparison, and thus most of its internal developments are without parallel.
The language is marked by dramatic lenition and vowel reduction. The goddess Faɽ (PL Poalu) is constantly invoked, but - as a form of taboo avoidance - usually by the name s' Muɽ "the corpse."
