The Proto-Isles etymological glosses are added by me and should be considered tentative; particularly doubtful stuff is marked with question marks, morphemes with unidentified etymologies are designated with "###" or capitalized, and morphemes in brackets could be different or absent in the actual protoforms. North Wind and Sun

The north wind and the sun argue.

A robed stranger comes before them,

The wind blows hard (lit: “in his back”)

After that, the frustrated North Wind stops to challenge (lit: “challenge stoppingly”) the Sun.

Shanam rafani,
He shines (lit: “does a shining”),

huy (miwmiwh?)-i tayyaw mátzi-wuys huy dúykuq-(-uys)-qas siqsam-ni káws!
re mor tseyo masibes re teguhas shisheani ko!
and the stranger drops his cloak and bathes in the river!

táq sí-húy-i síkim (huhipiq?)
Tsa furuzh shig rib 
So the North Wind grumbles

sí-hápa-yi háy-sawnunh-dziws(-i) qih
“sharabazhi rofonoasosh ir.” 
“the Sun is stronger, I suppose.”

siqsamiw-i huysam{h>s} yamu(-wuys)-hapaq
Shishamibi reshãs yamuhab.
Delicateness defeats force.

The goat and the wolf


sányamh-i (matiq?) pahsanh-káydiq(-uys)-qas sísiq miminam-uys
Shãyami mat parãkelihas shish minames, 
A goat is grazing upon a steep cliff,

shabes soki huyami goboabun sheati shabes. 
when he is seen by a wolf, who would not be able to reach him.

Tsa boabun shaha poti. 
So the wolf begins to call to him,

Reha tsoshoa tsa tsuhi hukareteas. 
'You should come [to me] so that you would not fall,

huy háy(-uys)-qas miminam-i
Re rehas minam.

The goat calls,

pusoas tsu tsezhires.”
you're calling so that you can eat!'
